From the time I was very young, we have always been taught to watch the birds. Birds were the sign of weather and future forecasters. They knew where to find game and berries. They know when predators are near and can either warn or expose you depending on your predicament. Witnessing the migration of this uncommon bird to the lake region, starving and yet unwilling to take any food was a haunting experience. An inevitable sign of change.
